As lazy as it may seem to release an album consisting entirely of previous releases, the effort has certainly paid off for New York screech noise wonders Gay For Johnny Depp. With Cumpassion setting the epic 31 track magnum opus off to a riotous dance-worthy start, it is clear that, although this release is merely a compilation of records sold before, it is an essential compilation of technicolour hardcore joy.
Anything-core tastic in every sense, Manthology is immense; with breakdowns akin to the sounds of crying cherubs and insightful lyrics such as “Lust and greed, it brings the world down to its knees/This is Johnny’s World!”, it’s the perfect party soundtrack, danceable at any given point. Each track offers an insight into how the band has progressed throughout their conception in 2004 and grounds for an impromptu party all in one
Few bands managed to encapsulate such spirit and awesomeness in one song alone, yet Manthology proves that Gay For Johnny Depp have the ability to do this 31 times in a row. Now let’s go and watch Sweeney Todd together, okay?
